An Apsley woman is warning people to be careful when out in the sun this summer following her own experience with skin cancer.

Grace Davies, a 26-year-old primary schoolteacher, was shocked when she was told by doctors that she had developed melanoma two years ago.

After having a new mole on her skin checked, tests confirmed that it was malignant.

Speaking about her experiences, Grace said: “It is quite scary. I have got very fair skin, so I’ve always been very cautious in the sun.

“I would really encourage people to use sunscreen daily. It’s such an easy thing to do and can prevent you from having to go through this really unpleasant process of being treated for cancer.”

Grace was referred to Watford General Hospital, and surgeons removed the area beneath the mole.

She has since received further treatment at London’s Royal Free Hospital, which has confirmed that the cancer has fortunately not spread.
