A Parliamentary candidate for the new Harpenden and Berkhamsted constituency, which includes Tring, is vehemently opposed to a proposed new development in the town.
Harrow Estates’ application for 1,400 homes for the Marshcroft garden village suburb, on the eastern side of Tring, is currently under appeal after being rejected by Dacorum Borough Council in 2022.
The plans also include proposals for new primary and secondary schools, health services, new parklands and meadows, cycle routes, bus services, and electric vehicle charging points.
A decision on the appeal is expected on March 15.
Conservative candidate for the new constituency Nigel Gardner told TRINGnews: “It would change the nature of Tring. If it goes ahead, we’re damaging the social fabric, damaging the green belt, and putting an unacceptable strain on local services.
“I’d like to see cross-party action to save the green belt and stop Marshcroft.”
A spokesperson for Harrow Estates, who are promoting the Marshcroft proposals, said: “If planning is approved for the development, Marshcroft would provide 1,400 new homes, including 630 desperately needed affordable homes, of which 410 would be available for rent.
“The development would also deliver an extensive package of community infrastructure improvements, including a primary school, investment into public transport, and a circa £1.8million contribution towards healthcare infrastructure. We would also be committed to creating significant sports and recreation facilities.”
