PUBS WITH A PAST: Kings Langley resident launches project delving into village’s history

A Kings Langley resident has launched a creative project sharing the history of the village with residents.

Andrea Bartlett, who is currently studying for a master’s degree in public history at Royal Holloway University, has launched history project Pubs with a Past.

The project delves into the history of pubs in the village via a series of videos, as well as other historical landmarks giving residents an insight into their local history.

Andrea said she decided to focus her project on the village after noticing the depth of history in the village.

She said: “I was thinking about things to focus on and every time I walked past the pubs and history in Kings Langley and thought what a depth of history there is here.

“I really enjoyed going round the village talking about the different landmarks and depth of history.”

Andrea added that through the project she is delving into local history which is not as widely covered in academia.

She said “One of the challenges is that local history tends to be treated as a second-class citizen and get a little side-lined.

“I wanted to make the ideas modern and relevant for people, just to give people a taste of how much happened in the past.”

Andrea also said that by sharing the project within the community she is hoping to get some feedback.

She said: “As a student one point of view is to get feedback and comments. When I put my Kings Langley resident hat the most important thing would be to enjoy the project.”
