A young woman who works at a Northwood golf shop has been named Ladies’ Middlesex County Champion.
Priyanka Parmar, who works at Complete Golfer in Clive Parade, Northwood, won the prestigious Ladies’ County Championship Knockout on Saturday, May 18, at Bush Hill Park Golf Club after beating Sudbury Golf Club’s Nicola Grover 3 and 2 in the final.
It was the second time the 20-year-old took the award, after winning it for the first time back in 2016.
The golfer said: “To have won this is unreal to be honest. To have played in this county my whole life and then go out and win it is incredible.
“Winning it again in a new setting was surreal as well – I really wasn’t expecting to do it. I suppose you never go in expecting to win, but I went in with a really positive attitude. I didn’t play well in the qualifying rounds but I made it through, and from there I really just said ‘Let’s go for it’, and I took it shot-by-shot.”
Priyanka, who has been a member of Pinner Hill Golf Club for 11 years, was particularly grateful to Complete Golfer, where she’s worked part-time as a retailer since February.
She said: “I only started working there recently but it’s been a blessing. They’re so supportive of me there and they’re very understanding of me spending my time playing and taking some time off.”
Alex Berg, assistant manager at Complete Golfer, told NorthwoodNews: “Finding out she’d won was definitely a surprise, because she’s been working here for quite a lot of hours.
“But she was quietly confident I think and she’s really driven – she’s impressed us massively.
“We’ve obviously been more than happy for her to take the time off to practice, but its noticeable when she’s not here.
“We all had chats with her before the championship, because we’ve all been in the male equivalent position in the past- though none of us did quite as well as she did.”
