Parents who take their children to school are often familiar with the daily challenge of finding a safe and convenient place to park.

At St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, near Abbots Langley on Langleybury Lane, this routine inconvenience has become a recurring problem, prompting Hertfordshire Police to take firmer action.

Hertfordshire Police have confirmed that they will begin handing out penalty notices to parents next year who park dangerously outside St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, located near Langleybury Lane, during the school run.

Concerns about parking around the school have been raised repeatedly over recent months. Residents, parents, and staff have shared their frustrations on community forums and social media, calling for clearer enforcement to prevent near-misses and potential accidents.

Speaking to ABBOTSnews, a spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Over the past months, our local Schools and the police have received numerous complaints with regard to the parking problems, both in the mornings and in the afternoons.

“Unfortunately, the problems continue to persist, and we are left in a position where we feel that we now need to look to issue penalty notices for these offences. This is something we have tried to avoid.

“We will, in the very near future, look closely at these problems and issue fixed penalties as appropriate.”

This is not the first time that residents have been warned about unsafe parking in and around Abbots Langley schools, as patrols from Bedmond School, Tanners Wood JMI, and The Divine Saviour Primary School have spotted unsafe parking.

Herts Police have advised residents with advice not to block the pavement or road to pedestrians can use the pavement without difficulty, park on the bend of a junction, park on the school, keep clear yellow lines during hours of operation, and park on double yellow lines.

Officers have emphasised: “This is not the responsibility of our local schools, they are there to teach the children, they are not there to teach adults, on how to park correctly, this is the responsibility of the driver.”
