A visitor to The Mount jail in Bovingdon was yesterday (Wednesday) cleared of smuggling mobile phones to an inmate.

Christopher Baptiste, 48, was accused of passing three packages containing six phones, cables and USB connectors to prisoner Simon Collins on December 16, 2015.

When he left the visiting room, Collins was stopped by prisoner officers and the items were found in his boxer shorts, Luton crown court heard.

Mr Baptiste, of Alexandra Street, Plaistow, East London, pleaded not guilty to conveying prohibited items into prison.

He said he had been visiting a friend and denied passing anything
