The consultation phase has now started for Dacorum Borough Council’s (DBC) new Local Plan, which would include the building of 975 new homes in Berkhamsted by 2041.
The Local Plan and Regulation 19 consultation were approved at a full council meeting on Tuesday, October 15.
The consultation began on Monday, November 4, and will run until Tuesday, December 17. It will evaluate sites across the borough, including four in Berkhamsted, which have been chosen as the best options for development.
From 2027, according to consultation documents, around 775 dwellings could be built on a site of more than 30 hectares just south of Berkhamsted.
There would also be 100 dwellings built on the British Film Institute site by 2039, and 100 more on Haslam Playing Fields.
There is also a proposal to build new sports and leisure facilities for Berkhamsted School on the field at Haresfoot Campus.
The two Berkhamsted general employment areas, Northbridge Road and River Park, were not listed as areas to build more houses.
