Officers are appealing for information and witnesses after a cat was shot with an air rifle in Leavesden. It is believed that Benji, who is seven years old, was shot with an air rifle between 7.30pm and 9pm on Thursday, July 21, in the High Road area. Although Benji suffered injuries to his internal organs, which meant he needed emergency surgery and he is still under veterinary care at this time, he was reunited with his family on July 29. PC Wendy Martin, investigating, said: “I am appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. Perhaps you suspect someone is using an air rifle for the wrong reasons or you heard this incident. “I’d like to reassure the local community that we believe that this was an isolated occurrence. The investigation is on-going and we are working hard to identify the person responsible for this cruel crime.” Hear what else PC Wendy Martin had to say, and more, in the September edition of My Abbots News, which will be distributed on September 2.
