HUGE WIN: St Albans out of relegation area after beating Braintree Town away

Published on: 14th March 2020   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Uncategorized

St Albans moved ahead of Braintree Town and into safety in the league this afternoon (March 14) after beating them 1-0 thanks to an own goal in the first half.

Joe Iaciofano looked to have got the decisive goal on the 15th minute, but it was later revealed to have gone in via a Braintree defender.

The Saints had a good opportunity in the 5th minute through Frankie Musonda, after a great ball from David Noble, but a last ditch tackle denied him from getting a shot away.

Noble was vital in the build up once again in the 15th minute after his pass found Harry Forster, and the defender’s cross cannoned into the net after taking a deflection.

Iaciofano should have put his side two goals in front on the 43rd minute when St Albans were awarded a penalty, but his well struck penalty was terrifically saved by the Braintree goalkeeper.

Zane Banton went inches away from doubling the Saints’ lead on the hour mark, when his effort went just wide.

St Albans City held on to claim a vital three points to move out of the relegation area once more, at the expense of opponents Braintree Town.

A perfect response after the defeat against Dartford last time out, and now the Saints prepare for Dulwich Hamlet at home next weekend, who themselves are fighting relegation.
