POSITIVE PROJECT: Campaign to install defibrillator in Stanmore close to fundraising target

Published on: 24th November 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A fundraiser set up in 2022 to install a defibrillator outside Canons Park station has come within £1,000 of its target.

Set up by David Beach and Adam Metsellar, the fundraiser will cover the purchase of the automated external defibrillator pad, as well as its installation and maintenance.

Now led by David, the campaign is also aiming to raise funds for five years’ worth of maintenance costs and, in the future, multiple defibrillator units.

Whilst a new defibrillator has been installed nearby in Canons Park, the main campaign for a new life-saving device near the station would be a more accessible point for the device, according to the campaigners.

David told Stanmore & Edgware News that the Cannons Wood site is ideal because it has 24/7 access and will be very visible by the bus and Tube routes.

There are also two CCTV cameras in the area, which would help to keep the defibrillator secure.

David said: “Hopefully someone doesn’t ever need it, but it would be fantastic if it made a difference.”

A community-spirited man, David has made an effort to work with residents to deliver the project.

He said: “We need more [community projects]. It can drive things forwards in a positive fashion.

“Individually, we’re useless, but together we can be fantastic.”

At the time of writing, the campaign has raised £2,242, which is over 70 per cent of the way to the fundraiser’s £3,200 target.
