Residents have described the quality of tarmacking on a Radlett street as a “disgrace”.
Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) laid new tarmac along a footpath in Watford Road, but locals have criticised the poor quality of the work and pointed out that tyre tracks and footprints were left behind.
Resident Peter Coleman said: “It’s a disgrace. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It’s like a child did the work, but worse.”
In response, HCC said the footpath was used before it was ready.
A spokesperson for HCC said: “As with any planned maintenance scheme, we made every effort to let people know about these works before work started on site.
“However, there are times when, despite our best efforts, the safety measures and the advice of our site teams are not followed. This was the case here, where the pavement was used before the new surface had fully cured.
“This type of surfacing beds in over time, and we will of course be monitoring this location and will carry out remedial repairs if necessary.”
