Local author and poet, Mike Lansdown, is celebrating a summer full of success after the release of his latest poetry collection, *Ffenestri*.
Released in January, the anthology is named after the Welsh word for windows. The name reflects both Mike’s Welsh heritage and that poetry “affords us a variety of views of the world we live in.”
Speaking to Ricky&ChorleywoodNews, Mike said:
“What we see from a window depends very much on its shape and size, on the location of the building, on the season, time of day, and so on, and also on our own mood and frame of mind at the time. In a similar way, poetry allows us to see human experiences – whether they be mundane or exceptional – in a different light, to reframe events that shape our lives and to express them in other, sometimes unexpected ways.”
Mike also entered the Pen to Print Poetry Competition 2026, in which he came third with his poem “Adrift”.
Alongside his own writing, Mike is part of a local writing group, Watford Writers, where he has been a member for almost 10 years.
In a recent interview with former Wham! backing singer, Janey Lee Grace, Mike spoke about his lifelong love of words. Mike credited joining Watford Writers for the influx of success his writing has received since joining the group.
