A Radlett resident is taking his first steps into running charity football matches on Saturday, November 16, when Pitch Positivity head to Hendon FC’s Silver Jubilee Stadium to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and mental health charity Beder.
Pitch Positivity, a mental health organisation who work in football, was founded by Radlett-based Chris Benson in November 2023.
The business was born from Chris’ realisation that football saved his life.
He told RADLETTnews: “I’ve played football at grassroots level all my life, but when I didn’t play, I really went downhill.”
Chris transformed from being overweight and battling daily suicidal thoughts to a healthy weight by playing football regularly, building a supportive community through the sport.
Chris said: “I’ve asked myself why I’m doing it, I think it’s because I wish I had someone like me when I was struggling to try and help.
“I’ve learnt the hard way my whole life, I’m always there to offer advice.”
The event promises a spectacular half time show, raffles and auctions with prizes and four ‘power cards’ added to make the game more exciting,
With ex-Premier League star Matthew Briggs part of the lineup, the charity event will be supporting Beder’s cause, which provides therapy vouchers to those in need alongside raising funds for cancer research funding for CRUK.
The two teams, Conquest All-stars and Vivian Jean Rogers Cup, will be kicking off at 6.30pm on the night.
