The World Athletics Championships 2022 took place in Oregon over July 15 – 23, with Garston’s 800m runner, Kyle Langford, representing Great Britain.
Kyle came into the Championships in good form, having recently set his personal best in Pfungstadt, Germany, on June 18, with a run of 1:44.61.
The 26-year-old arrived in Oregon hoping to improve on his fourth place finish in the London Championships in 2017. Five years ago, Kyle missed out on a medal by just 0.04sec.
Kyle sailed through his heat, coming in second with a time of 1:45.68.
In the semi-final, Kyle ran another fast race, but once again suffered World Championship heartbreak with a photo finish and a fourth place. The top three, which included the eventual gold medal winner, qualified for the final. Kyle was short by just a third of a second.
Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir from Kenya won gold with a season’s best time of 1:43.71.
