Not many stories are as deeply moving and enriching as that of Holocaust survivor John Fieldsend.
Author of A Wondering Jew, 93-year-old John shared his remarkable story of survival and resilience at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home.
Born in Czechoslovakia in 1931, John’s early life was disrupted by the rise of Nazi persecution, leading to a “perilous journey to safety”.
John shared the story of his escape through the Kindertransport, a rescue effort that brought thousands of children to safety in the UK.
He also spoke about the impact of anti-Jewish prejudice and his ability to find resilience and build a meaningful life.
There were few dry eyes after he read out the letter he received from his parents shortly before they died in the Nazi gas chambers.
Bushey House home manager Mary Jane said: “His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of tolerance, understanding, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. We are so grateful he shared his experiences with us.”
