A woman from Northwood has been named in Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling list for her efforts to encourage other women to get on their bikes.
Alia Merali was taught to cycle at an early age by her father and has since helped hundreds of women get into cycling.
Part of her efforts including setting up Evolve, a cycle network for Muslim women which is dedicated to making cycling more accessible and building confidence in women and children.
Speaking about her love for cycling, Alia said: “The joy I’ve seen on faces after someone either learned how to ride, or mastered a skill, or just getting out for a group ride and completing a challenging route, keeps me going. I think cycling is a permanent part of my life that keeps evolving.”
