A family from Stanmore has spoken out after a run-in with a private parking company.
Following a regular visit to Stanmore Library on January 29, retired resident Margaret Smith was upset to receive a parking ticket. Despite appealing the fee, Margaret was sent a letter by UK Car Park Management threatening her with bailiffs. The retiree was left “extremely stressed” and “frightened”.
Margaret then contacted Bob Blackman CBE, MP for Harrow East, who in turn liaised with UK Car Park Management to cancel the parking notice.
According to Margaret’s daughter, Helen, it is deeply concerning that the family was unable to successfully appeal the parking ticket without the intervention of their local MP.
Helen said: “The system is designed to victimise and bully elderly people.
“My mother did not know that the terms and conditions of parking at the library had changed.
“We appealed the ticket on the company’s own website, yet we’ve received no response.”
UK Car Park Management have been contacted for comment.
