VICTORIOUS: West Herts Lions celebrate after winning the league with two games remaining

The Lions, a local football team who have trained together for nearly 10 years are over the moon after winning their league with two games remaining.

Last month the West Herts Lions, or The Lions as they are also known, won the Under 15 Watford Friendly League Red Division (premier) and spoke to CroxleyNews when they were unbeaten with only one fixture remaining.

The team made up of 17 boys from the local area have been together as a team since they were under five adding to the comradery of the team.

Their three coaches Mike Thompson, James Newman and Steve Boddy said it is great to see the team still together and successful after so many years.

On winning the league the coaches added that it was great to see all the hard work the boys have put in pay off.

They said: “We are extremely proud of the boys’ achievements this season. All 17 members of the squad have contributed to the success and their rewards are thoroughly deserved”. 

The Lions won the league with two games remaining and remain unbeaten with one fixture remaining. They have scored an average of over 4 goals per game and only conceded an average of 1 goal per game.

The team also wanted to pay a special thank you to The Old Coach and Horses on The Green for their continued support.
