Stanmore Golf Club where thanked by Harrow Mencap last month as they handed over a £4,000 donation which was raised at the annual Captains Charity Golf Day.
Deven Pillay, CEO of Harrow Mencap, had the pleasure of receiving the £4,165 cheque on October 17 from the club’s leadership.
Over the years, the club has committed to raising huge amounts of money to local charities, including Harrow Mencap and St Luke’s Hospice in Harrow.
As part of many golf club’s tradition, the club captain at the start of his or her captaincy chooses a charity to support in their year and all fundraising efforts go to the chosen charity.
The Captain’s Day, which was at the end of August, was a day full of fun, smiles and fundraising – a ‘Beat the Captain’ challenge raised over £500 alone.
The golf was followed by a BBQ dinner. Members, friends and local businesses sponsored holes and even others who couldn’t attend made donations towards the cause.
Deven said: “It was a pleasure to visit Stanmore Golf Club for a second time and catch up with captain Kirti and his team who put together the brilliant event last August. We are deeply grateful for all their effort and look forward to working with the club and its partners in the future.
“All of us here at Harrow Mencap would like to say a huge thank you to Stanmore Golf Club for the outstanding fundraiser event they hosted. We can’t wait to see you at our Annual Celebration Event next year.”
Kirti added: “This year I was keen to support a local charity that served the residents of Harrow and as such Harrow Mencap was the ideal choice. The money has continued to flow in since and I was delighted when the total raised exceeded £4,000. I am hopeful that the awareness raised of Harrow Mencap through this event will help further still.”
