PAPER FREE: New ticketless parking machines installed in Three Rivers car parks

Tickets issued when paying to park is set to become a thing of the past in car parks run by Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).

New solar-powered, paperless ticket machines have been installed in all of the council’s car parks across the district.

Instead of printing tickets, these new machines register car number plates, with users entering their registration numbers via a large, easy-to-use keypad.

This new technology means motorists no longer have to return to their car to place the ticket on display inside the vehicle, removing an inconvenience and allowing them to get on with their day.

The initiative also aims to reduce the waste of paper produced, as well as reduce occurrences of machine, printing and paying errors.

Prices to park remain the same, and all users can still park in the spaces free of charge for up to one hour.

The council’s lead member for transport and economic development, councillor Paul Rainbow, said: “The new ticketless system provides a faster and more efficient transaction.

“It also enables people to get to the shops sooner and with less hassle as it has a significant reduction in user wait time at machines.”
