A local resident has spoken to RADLETTnews about the “appalling” parking situation on a Radlett road, which has left homeowners struggling to find a space.
Dean Tillyard, 67, says there are not enough parking spaces for residents on Station Road, yet there are still yellow lines along the road.
He said: “There are shopping spaces with no shops and it’s packed full. It’s unbelievable. It doesn’t strike me as being reasonable or fair whatsoever.”
Dean does not have a car at the moment, but said he has had to park up the hill at Gills Hill Lane in the past.
To make the parking situation worse, permission was granted to turn a commercial property on the road into a four-bed dwelling in December 2024. An office on the road was also approved to be converted into two one-bed dwellings on Thursday, February 27.
Dean said: “It’s crazy. It’s already a lottery.”
A spokesperson for Hertsmere Borough Council said: “Station Road is part of the Radlett Controlled Parking Zone. This prioritises resident parking over other types of parking. There is a finite amount of kerbside space in the street.
“Yellow lines are kept to a minimum to maximise kerbside parking but where they are in place, they are necessary for safety, and to allow access for properties and businesses.”
