A manager at a Bushey care home has been shortlisted for two regional awards.

Wayne Hughes, Regional Manager for Barchester’s Bushey House Beaumont Care Home in Bushey, has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award and the Putting People First Award for The London Region at the Great British Care Awards.

The London Regional Awards are part of the Great British Care Awards, a series of 9 regional awards celebrating excellence across the care sector.

The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both the home care and care home sectors, and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Wayne has been invited to attend the judging day on 24th October 2022 where the achievements will be celebrated, and the Regional Winners will be announced.

All Regional Winners will then go through to the next round of judging to decide the National Winners in each category.

Wayne is a devoted Regional manager who has been with Barchester for 8 years.

A team member who has contributed to the success of the home’s he has managed and supported.

Wayne is also a keen cyclist and has raised over £30k for charities including the Barchester Foundation, Macmillian Cancer, PSP society and the Stroke Association.

Wayne said: “I wasn’t expecting to be shortlisted for this award but I am so pleased, and proud. We don’t work in care for the accolades but it’s wonderful to be recognised by my team and peers, it is nothing short of an honour. I have been working in the social care sector since the very early age of 17 years, 12 year old if you include me assisting my mother in the day centre she worked at. The sector has moved on greatly with many challenges which I have embraced. Now some 30 years later I am still in a job that I love and enjoy.”

Mary Jane Bague, General Manager at Bushey House said: “This is an amazing achievement, the team and residents are supporting Wayne wholeheartedly. It’s more important than ever to recognise everyone that has worked so hard. There isn’t a more worthy winner, and we’re really excited for the Great British Care Awards ceremony next year where Wayne will hopefully take home the award.”
