Watford are just three points from safety after Nigel Pearson’s men swept aside Aston Villa this afternoon.
The home side started strongly and visiting keeper Tom Heaton had to be at his best to keep out Christian Kabasele.
As the first half wore on, the visitors grew into the game but home keeper Ben Foster continued his inspired form to keep out Wesley.
After a good spell of possession from the Golden Boys, it was Watford skipper Troy Deeney who prodded the home side in fromt when he knocked home the rebound after Tom Heaton had saved well from Abdoulaye Doucoure.
As the game approached the hour mark, it looked like Watford’s task had got harder after Adrian Mariappa was dismissed for two yellow cards but Watford doubled their lead just moments later after Deeney picked himself up to score from the penalty spot after he was felled by Douglas Luiz.
The Hornets made light of the red card and extended their lead four minutes later when Ismaila Sarr added the third from Etienne Capoue’s cross.
It seems Watford’s great escape is on.
