A local football club are welcoming an influx of future Chloe Kellys and Alessia Russos, as growing equality in the sport is “reflected no better than here at Kings Langley”.
At the start of the year, Kings Langley FC partnered with HealthyU Girls Football Academy. Now, the girls’ section is represented by the most teams in the club’s history.
Additionally, a groundbreaking move has seen the club enter their first all-girls’ team into a predominately boys’ league. The Kings Langley Under 11 Whites are competing in the West Herts Youth League this season.
Director of HealthyU Karl Thomas is passionate about ensuring girls have equal exposure to sport.
Joining the club as head of girls’ football, he shared: “HealthyU Girls Football is proud to be supporting Kings Langley FC with significantly increasing the number of girls’ teams entered to the 24/25 season.
“This new partnership signifies our shared visions for the club and girls’ football with fostering growth, inclusivity, and giving young girls the opportunity to develop in sport.
“Together, we’re shaping a future where girls’ football is empowered to thrive on the same stage as the boys.”
Club chairman Darren Eliot says it is “one of my proudest moments at the football club” and represents a breaking of stereotypical boundaries in the village as well as in the national football system.
