A Pinner student has published her debut novel, aged just 10 years old, delving into the complexities of well-loved fairy tales.

Berry Halpin, a student at St John Fisher Catholic School in Pinner, has self-published the book, entitled A Very Twisted Tale after being inspired by her English lessons at the school.

Speaking to Pinner News, her mum Debbie said: “She has always been imaginative and has always loved drama and performing. She is a great independent thinker and loves coming up with new ideas!”

The idea started when her year 5 class were doing a term about fairy tales, and the students were allowed to get creative with their characters. Berry was so inspired, she would borrow her mum’s laptop and continue working on her story.

Debbie continued: “We are so proud of her, and all the attention has helped her grow her confidence. The community has been buying copies and getting her to sign them.”

A spokesperson from the school said: “Congratulations to one of our very talented Year 6 pupils, who has self-published her own book! Following a unit of work in Year 5 last year, she has been inspired to create this fantastic story. She has spent the last year working on her book, it is finally complete and can be purchased on Amazon!

“What an achievement, well done, we are very proud of you!”
