A school in Northwood is celebrating a 100 per cent pass rate at A Level after results were published today. On Thursday 14th August 2014 at 9am an excited (and nervous) group of Year 13 St Helen’s girls arrived at the school in Northwood to receive their A Level results. Parents, teachers and careers advisers were on hand to share the girls’ good news. Across the board St Helen’s is celebrating outstanding A level results this year. The percentage of grades awarded at A* is 24% (up from last year’s 22%) and the overall percentage of A*- B grades is an excellent 85%. Three girls achieved 4 A* grades and a further 7 had three straight A* grades. The A Level pass rate is 100%. The School is delighted that the girls have won places to some of the best universities and courses, to read a very wide range of subjects. This reflects the depth and breadth of teaching and learning offered by St Helen’s, as well as the diversity and wealth of our students’ talents. Dr Mary Short, Headmistress of St Helen’s School commented, “I am very pleased for all our girls who have worked extremely hard to achieve such good results. I am particularly pleased that the grades awarded will enable the girls to study the best courses at outstanding universities and would like to congratulate all our pupils – and their supportive parents -and wish Year 13 all the best for transition to Higher Education. I hope they will maintain their links with St Helen’s as they progress through Higher Education and into their careers.” There was strength across all subjects from sciences to economics, languages, and humanities. Pupils have won places at prestigious university courses in the UK, including studying Natural Sciences and Biochemistry at UCL, Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, Medicine at Imperial College London, History and American Studies at Manchester University, French and Spanish at Oxford University, Economics at LSE and Psychology at Birmingham University. These results and university destinations reflect the broad range of opportunities St Helen’s is able to offer its girls. Ciara Norris was amongst the pupils who achieved four A* grades and is going to Cambridge University to read Engineering. Her ultimate goal is to specialise in the design and construction of bridges and she will be spending some of the next year working on such projects at Arup. Ciara has made the most of every opportunity the school has been able to provide to pursue her interest in engineering and she has participated in a number of co -curricular engineering courses. This is just one story of many that reflect the diversity of each individual girl’s journey.
