NORDIC ADVENTURE: Group from Amersham cycle length of Norway to honour their friend

Published on: 14th October 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Three Amersham boys have cycled the length of Norway to raise money for their late friend Tom Love.

James Watson 20, Edward Watson 22 and Tommy Davis 22 cycled for 32 days, covered 3075K and raised £6,272 for the Tom Love Trust.

Starting at the southern-most point of Norway in Lindesnes the team crossed fjords and forests, rode over bridges and through tunnels all the way up through the Arctic Circle to the northern-most point of the country, Nord Kapp where they finished their epic journey.

Speaking to AMERSHAMNews James summed up the trip by saying: “It was a month of awesome adventure and getting over hurdles with amazing people for an amazing person.”

Edward and Tommy were friends with Tom in school at Dr Challoners. Tom tragically passed away in December 2022 at the age of just 21, when he was living and working in the DRC. The year he passed; Tom was embarking on a motorbike trip from Amersham to South Africa.

The Amersham boys decided to honour their friend’s adventurous spirit by embarking on the Nordic cycle.

James described one of the trips funniest moments, he said: “We did a wild camp by a fjord, and it was a poor judgement on mine and Tommys side because we did not account for the tides. At three in the morning Edward woke up and the tide had come into the tent. It came up to our ankles!

“In the moment we could have been really depressed but the best thing was we all started laughing.”

James credits this positive attitude as the driving force behind the journey, an attitude which was shared by their friend Tom.

James spoke lovingly of Toms parents who he said they “supported us all the way”.
