Northwood FC lost for the fifth time in six games after Scott Dash’s men were beaten at home by Staines Town tonight in the Velocity Sport UK Trophy Group 8 match at the Acretweed Stadium tonight.
After a bright five minutes from the Woods, the away team stamped their authority on the game, dominated the possession and had the most amount of chances in front of goal. It was no surprise when they took the lead after 40 minutes.
Four minutes after the break, the Woods were back on level terms when Charlie Hayford curled a freekick into the top corner. But just after the hour, it was Staines who went back in front.
As the game drew to a close, Northwood didn’t look like scoring.
But a run by Luke Holness won Woods a free kick in a similar position as when Hayford scored and the midfielder drew the Woods back on level terms for a second time with a carbon copy of his earlier strike.
But just two minutes later, Northwood gave away another poor goal when Che Krabbendam skipped past several Woods players and somehow was able to turn his effort into the far inside post whilst under pressure from Woods players.
In the end it was Staines who snatched victory. In the end, it was the away team who enjoyed more possession in the second half and restricted Woods to only one shot on target which was a free kick.
