After picking up four points from their last two games, St Albans City FC were looking to build on their positive recent form when they took on Wealdstone FC at Clarence Park this evening.
After a bright start from the home team, Wealdstone grew into the game and took the lead just before the half hour mark when Jacob Mendy latched onto Ross Lafayette’s chest down and drove the ball into the corner of the net.
To their credit, St Albans looked for an immediate response and got back on level terms when Oli Sprague crossed for Albert Adu to head home at the near post.
Just after the break, the visitors were back in front in spectacular fashion when Daniel Green won the ball high up the pitch and hit an unstoppable drive into the top corner. The visitors extended their lead on 69 minutes through Ross Lafayette from the spot after David Deidhiou was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.
The home team responded well to falling behind for a second time and with two minutes left, Joe Iaciofano found Rhys Murrell-Williamson, who cuts onto his left and finds the far corner of the net.
Ultimately though, St Albans FC had nothing to show for their brave efforts and Wealdstone travel home with the points.
