A small team at the Gerrards Cross Community Association is helping feed people who are struggling due to COVID19 in Chalfont St Peter and the rest of South Bucks area.
The COVID 19 initiative was launched, creating a menu of delicious dishes for those in need of convenience meals.
Sue Stone who heads up the team said: “Many people in the community wanted access to ready meals and found that lots of organisations were doing great work providing food for free.
“However, this was very much on a goodwill and infrequent basis. Having spoken to our community, they felt they wanted a scheme which gave the opportunity to pay a small amount towards the cost of the ingredients, with the assurance that the meals could be ordered via a menu and delivered on a regular basis.
“These are trying times for everyone and we are the lucky ones so if we can help those who are disadvantaged by dint of current circumstances, we are very happy to do so.”
The volunteers are fully trained, and they are dubbed the ‘COVID Cooks’. From simple soups to classic favourites like cottage pie and vegetarian curries, there is something to suit all tastes.
One person who has enjoyed meals from the ‘COVID Cooks’ is Mary, she said: “I love the meals and the convenience of having them delivered by a friendly face and the opportunity to have a quick chat. The meals are generous and easy to reheat, they are great.”
As we move out of lockdown and into the ‘new normal’ many of the goodwill initiatives will disappear, however, the need to shield and be cautious will remain.
The ‘COVID cooks’ will aim to continue to care and serve those in need, now and in the future.
