Pinner Library was forced to close last month after reports of asbestos being found in the roof.
Residents shared their concerns on social media after discovering that the library was closed.
Reports suggested that asbestos was found in the roof panels of the building, which had been discovered ahead of planned maintenance works.
According to guidance from the Health and Safety Executive: “Asbestos is the greatest cause of work-related deaths in Great Britain. Around 5,000 people die every year from asbestos-related diseases which typically take decades to develop and cannot be cured.”
Speaking to Pinnernews, a spokesperson for Harrow Council said: “The library was temporarily closed while we removed asbestos found in the panelling, before work on the roof could take place.
“There was no danger to the public, however, it is within our duty of care to take the steps required to remove this and continue with maintenance works to the building. The library will open again soon.”#
