Speaking to RADLETTnews, Helen said: “It’s a very privileged position and I feel quite honoured.”
Helen helped to set up RRS in Bushey 50 years ago. Since moving the synagogue to Radlett, it has continued to thrive.
She said: “I’m quite proud of what we’ve achieved; lots of people have worked exceedingly hard.
“We are a flourishing and quite large community. It’s lovely that we can offer this facility.”
Synagogue president Barry Hyman led the tributes in a sermon, with chair Spencer Grant saying: “A really special Shabbat service, packed with founder and long-standing members, was a lovely way to honour Helen as she was confirmed as vice president. The warmth and love in the room was tangible and truly deserved.”
Rabbi Paul added: “Helen and her late husband Paul were one of the 16 original membership households that founded the community in the early 1970s. For over five decades, Helen has played an active role and still does to this day, always keen to volunteer. Honouring Helen as our vice president is a mark of the community’s genuine love and respect for her.”
