On Friday I attended the Association of Independent Magazine Publisher’s Awards ceremony in the Midlands.
It’s the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars and attracts hundreds of magazine owners from across the UK and even Spain and Australia.
Last year we won picked up two awards including Most Inspirational Business Owner, which I was chuffed to win.
This year the competition was even tougher with a record amount of entries across the different categories.
The calibre of quality magazines and editors going for the different awards meant that when my name was announced for the Most Inspirational Business Owner for the second year running I was delighted.
Delighted to have done the double at the Independent Magazine Industry’s Oscars.
I was up against seven other magazine owners who had all achieved some fantastic stuff. If I’m honest I didn’t expect to win again.
But when the golden envelope was opened (they really did have gold envelopes) my name was called out and the compere explained why I had ‘done the double.’
The judges highlighted my commitment to creating a great working environment and investing in training. Our monthly staff motivational meetings were also commended.
I feel really honoured to have won the award twice and it’s testimony to our team’s work ethic that this has happened. I’m a big believer in the ‘Happy chickens lay more eggs’ approach to looking after staff to keep them motivated so it was nice to see the judges recognise the importance of this.
Seeing the team develop and the company grow is what drives me on.
The judges also mentioned the work we do supporting charities and community events.
Our night got even better when we won Best Promotional Video for our advertisers’ website.
It features cartoons, testimonials from delighted clients and our staff explaining what life is like at My News. The judges gave the video a lot of praise and again I was delighted that we scooped this one as a lot of hard work has gone into it.
