I’m just about coming back down to earth after an amazing evening on Friday.
After months of hard work, organisation and no little stress, My Local Heroes 2014 took place and has been deemed a success.
More than 27 nominees across 10 categories provided some incredible and memorable stories for the 300 guests who attended.
It’s a cliché but in this case very true that all of the people who were entered and shortlisted are winners.
We came up with the idea for an evening like this to recognise the unsung heroes within our communities.
In the age of the selfie these people are the selfless. The thread that ran through all of the nominees’ stories was that of being more interested in others than themselves. It was inspiring, emotional and humbling to hear their stories.
We raised more than £10,000 and counting for local charities. The other less tangible part of the night was simply highlighting what’s good in our communities. There’s a lot to be proud of.
The guest speaker was the legendary footballer Jimmy Greaves and he proved a hit with the audience.
The musical entertainment from the Military Wives Choir and other local talent really added a touch of class to the evening.
Due to the enormous amount of organisation and effort which goes into a My Local Heroes we will be holding it every two years.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who played a part in the evening’s success.
Thanks for reading.
Nik
