NFL stars visit Bushey school

Published on: 20th October 2014   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

National Football League (NFL) stars Atlanta Falcons touched down at Bushey Meads School today to give children an insight into what the sport is about. The visit, organised by the council, Arsenal in the Community, NFL, the Falcons and Bushey Meads, enabled the children to try kicking, throwing and sprinting under the expert eye of some of the team’s star players and NFL volunteers.  Pupils from Little Reddings and Falconer schools, along with a group from Islington, also joined in with the session. Atlanta Falcons’s General Manager, Thomas Dimitroff and their head coach, Mike Smith, addressed the children and encouraged them to cheer for the Falcons when they take on the Lions at Wembley this weekend. Cllr Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, who attended the event said: “What a wonderful opportunity for the young people to take part in a new sport. It was quite a spectacle seeing the players being greeted by their cheerleaders and so much razzmatazz. “We would like to thank Bushey Meads for agreeing to host the event, Arsenal in the Community for this exciting opportunity as well as, of course, the players themselves for giving up their time.”
