Newly resurfaced road gets unexpected guests

Published on: 18th February 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A road in Abbots Langley that was resurfaced was dug up three days later.

Hertfordshire County Council finished resurfacing Lauderdale Road on January 23, for gas works to start three days later.

A gas leak was the cause for the repairs.

Chris Whately-Smith posted on Facebook: “On Tuesday (January 23) the council did a great job on the road. I jokingly said to one of the people, ‘bet the gas board dig it up within six months.’ Well they only took 3 days.”

He added: “It’s unfortunate that a gas leak should occur but if they already knew about, which someone suggested they did, it would’ve been better if they did it beforehand. But a gas leak is a gas leak.”

Councillors Alex Michael and Jon Tankard attended to look at the scene.

Alex Michaels said: “It does seem more efficient that the gas works are done when they’re needed. It does seem ridiculous and it was terrible luck that that the gas board came.”
