A Berkhamsted author is releasing her seventh and “best” book next month.
Clare Swatman has been writing all her life. After a number of years working for a variety of women’s magazines, Clare turned her attention to fiction in 2013, almost on a whim. Two years later, she sent her finished novel, Before You Go, to a dozen literary agents without thinking too much of it.
One week later, she was signed to an agent, and within two months she had a two-book deal with translation rights sold around the world.
Now on her seventh novel, The World Outside My Window, Clare’s process has changed a great deal.
She said: “Writing your first book is a very lonely, self-contained experience, and although I still plot and write the whole book myself, I know if I get stuck or need help with anything, my editor is there for help and advice. It’s a long game, and it’s hard work, but it’s great when you have the right support around you.
“My editor was really excited when she read this and said it’s my best book so far – and because it’s impossible to tell whether something is good when you’ve spent so long writing it, I’ve decided to believe her, and just hope that my readers agree!”
The World Outside My Window will be published on June 5 and can be purchased from Amazon.
