Land that was formerly part of a demolished Meriden school is set to be sold off by the county council, who own it.
Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) have owned the freehold of the property since approving the closure of Meriden Primary School in 2004, and subsequently it’s demolition in 2005. Since then, it’s stood empty.
But now, at a Cabinet meeting on Monday, April 25, councillors agreed to push forward with disposing of the land, as according to documents from that meeting, “no other realistic options arise.”
In the conclusion of the session, it is also stated in documents that: “The proposal is designed to ensure smooth administrative passage of any future sale of this asset and is recommended accordingly.”
One potential buyer already interested is Herts Living Ltd, which according to its website, is a company that both builds and makes investments in real estate across the county, having already completed homes in Watford, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin in partnership with other companies.
The land being disposed does not include the former playing fields of Meriden Primary School, despite them also being owned by the council.
