NEW LOOK: Plans propose to turn former Northwood police station into day nursery

Published on: 13th May 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

New plans have been put forward to convert the former Northwood police station on Murray Road into a children’s day nursery.

The two new applications have been submitted by developers Azaf Investments Limited.

Though most of the building would remain unaltered as it is Grade II listed, the applications propose the erection of a single-storey entrance pavilion and an access lift.

Murray Road was formerly home to the local area’s police station, but the building was closed in 2019 after 92 years in operation and was sold off two years later. It has remained empty ever since.

Previous applications to convert the building have faced opposition from local residents. A proposal to turn the site into a community centre and mosque was rejected in April 2023, despite support from other religious organisations.

These new plans have divided residents on social media, with many stating their fears that the change would cause traffic problems in the area.

One resident stated: “Great, yet more nightmare traffic and parking!”

However, another said: “Clearly we don’t have enough childcare in our local area. If you’re worried about traffic, maybe you could suggest the council implement some road restrictions in the area?”

A decision on the two applications is expected on Wednesday, June 5.

The agents for the applications, The Architects Practice, have been contacted for comment.
