A local initiative aiming to support residents with cancer has been forced to pause its activities due to insufficient numbers of participants.
The 5k Your Way initiative is run by the charity MOVE and has branches across the country. On the last Saturday of the month, ambassadors from the charity lead local people affected by cancer around the Rickmansworth parkrun. However, due to low turnout, organisers have decided to pause activities until after the summer.
Despite this, the branch is already rallying support ahead of its September reboot. Taking to Facebook, Rickmansworth 5k Your Way is on the lookout for cancer nurses, GPs or patient advocates who would like to lead the monthly 5k, as well as people to distribute flyers to promote the group.
Local cancer rehab instructor Beth said: “We encourage those living with and beyond cancer, friends, and those working in cancer services to do 5k in your own way, whether that be walking, running, cheering or volunteering. We would love to welcome more people.”
