NEW CHAPTER: Chorleywood Bookshop moves to bigger premises

Published on: 15th January 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Chorleywood Bookshop is moving to bigger premises after nearly 50 years in the same spot.

Co-owner Sheryl Shurville is excited about the new chapter for the shop, which is moving a few doors down to the former Peppermill restaurant in New Parade from March.

She said: “We are having the new shop professionally re-designed to create a lovely area for children at the back and more browsing space for customers, with attractive display units.”

Sheryl said that larger premises will make buying books even more of a joy for her many loyal customers.

“We had to get really creative during lockdown,” she said.

The shop continued to organise events online, made home deliveries and offered a click and collect service.

“We found that many new customers, who were having to work from home, responded really positively to our personal service,” said Sheryl.

The shop has won several awards and in 2020, won an award recognising the innovative ways independent bookshops responded to the challenges of the pandemic.

One such initiative is a subscription service whereby customers gift one book per month to a friend or relative for 3, 6 or 12 months, which Sheryl said is very popular.

She said that the shop will continue to supply books to dozens of schools throughout Herts and Bucks.

Authors speaking online as guests of the bookshop in February include daughter of Holocaust survivors Esther Safran Foer, geriatrician Dr Lucy Pollock and philosopher A C Grayling.
