NEW CHALLENGE: Dad swimming English Channel for Garston Manor School

Published on: 1st September 2020   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

A dad is swimming the English Channel to raise money for Garston Manor School, a school which has supported his autistic son for years.

Matt Murphy is booked to swim the English Channel in between August 26 and September 1, depending on the weather.

He is raising £4,485 to provide sensory packs for the school that supported his son Dylan through the years.

On his fundraising page Matt wrote: “One of the biggest reasons we have seen such development in Dylan over the years is the support his schools have provided. Garston Manor provides incredible support to the children and in turn that helps the parents in more ways than can be explained.”

Speaking about his training, Matt mentioned: “Most of my training is now complete. So far I have racked up my first ever six hour swim, followed by another six hours swim, and a four hours the next day this was followed by another six and four hours just four days later.

“This was to rapidly build my ability to recover from the long swims. I then managed to do an eight hours training swim, and then last weekend a seven- and six-hours challenge. Now I’m tapering and starting to keep an eye on the weather.”

Matt has so far raised £2,655, if you wish to donate go to justgiving.com/crowdfunding/matts-channel-swim?fbclid=IwAR3anrvQY8J546z3xGXyKC-5koqQcDuoikDe1OrepgD-8tADKs74oS53liE.
