A woman from Croxley is running the London Marathon to raise money for the Chron’s & Colitis UK charity in honour of her best friend.
Sara Lomax, 26, from the village, will be taking part in the virtual marathon on October 4 after the marathon which was due to take place in April was cancelled.
The marathon will take place using an app created by the London Marathon which will track Sara around her 26.2-mile route.
Sara has chosen the Chron’s & Colitis charity because it has a special place in her heart after her best friend India sadly passed away due to complications from colitis in 2016.
She said: “I always wanted to do something for the charity.
“The charity has a helpline which has been crucial over the pandemic for people who have had flare ups due to the stress and uncertainty the pandemic has caused.”
Sara said that was initially disappointed when she found out in March that the marathon had been cancelled.
She said: “I had been training and running about 30 miles a week and then the pandemic cancelled everything.
“It was quite heart-breaking.”
She will be joined by her friends on different legs on the marathon and will finish on Croxley Green for a celebration.
Sara has raised over £3,000 so far from various fundraising events such as cakes sales and a live music event hosted at the Perch & Co in Croxley.
She said: “People have been so generous, and they are still donating which is great. I just want to raise as much as possible.
“I know the charity has been really helpful and without the donations their work would not be happening.”
