NEW BEGINNINGS: Berkhamsted Station garden in full bloom as lockdown eases

Published on: 3rd July 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Friends of Berkhamsted Station have completed their renovation of an overgrown flowerbed after two years of voluntary work.

The garden regeneration began in September 2018 when Berkhamsted Gardeners’ Society was contacted to enquire if anyone would be willing to renovate an overgrown flower bed at the station’s rear entrance.

A group of six volunteers stepped forward and were supported by London Northwestern Railway with a grant of £1,000 and it work began with the front raised bed, planting colourful flowers and grasses.

After two years of hard work, including members acting independently during lockdown, a completed garden is at the station for residents to enjoy.

The group said the response to their work has been fantastic; members of the public have been very encouraging and appreciative of the improvements to the station and once the garden was finished, an unknown admirer contacted the group via their Facebook page and donated £50 because he said he would enjoy his daily commute so much more.

The group has also been offered ongoing sponsorship from a local taxi firm.

Posts on a local Facebook page received over 400 likes in the first two days and over 50 admiring comments.
