A Kings Langley woman has turned loss into an opportunity to make a difference by fundraising to rejuvenate a local music studio.
In 1996, four-year-old Charlotte moved with her parents to a small farm at the edge of Kings Langley.
Charlotte’s mum Rhona started running Rhona’s Rooms – a music studio for local bands – and soon transformed the site into a lively hub of creativity. She ran the site for nearly 30 years.
In 2022, Charlotte and her husband welcomed their first daughter, but alongside the joy and challenges of new parenthood also came heartbreak.
Soon after the birth, Rhona became unwell and tragically passed away in April 2023.
The loss left Charlotte devastated, navigating early motherhood without her beloved mum by her side.
Determined not to let Rhona’s legacy and impact fade, Charlotte made a brave decision.
She left her role as a HR director to take over the family business. With limited funds and a growing family, Charlotte has turned to the community for help to make essential improvements to the studios. She hopes this will ensure the beloved site can continue championing local musicians.
She is currently taking part in a national competition for women-led businesses, hosted by Crowdfunder and lifestyle platform Muddy Stilettos. The contest offers up to £10,000, and Charlotte has set her own fundraising target of £2,500 to help secure the future of the studios.
So far, the fundraising page has raised over £5,000, enabling Charlotte to invest in new equipment.
She shared with KINGSnews: “We want to build a community of friends and create a space for local musicians that helps to springboard them into the next stage of their careers – particularly for young musicians who need a safe and supportive space.”
