A local young harpist has won an annual competition organised by a Chorleywood-based music group.
Jamaal Kashim claimed the Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year 2024 title in the yearly contest held by Chorleywood Music. The competition recognises up-and-coming local musicians aged 19 and under.
In second place was 10-year-old pianist Elizabeth Pinyan Guo, while guitarist Nathaniel Merkies came in third place.
The other finalists were clarinet player Oreva Esalomi, oboe player Rhea Jo, and pianists Yazdi Madon, Gordon Chan and Sedona de Silva.
The finals concert took place on Sunday, March 17, at the event’s sponsor, Richard Lawson Pianos in Amersham. Special guest judges, cello teacher Nicola Tait Baxter, conductor Daniel Hogan and keyboardist Elena Vorotko, made the final decision.
The Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year competition has been held annually since 1983, attracting a wide variety of classical musicians from across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and London.
