On September 27, a 12-panel mural was installed outside the Royal Mail post office on Hill Avenue in Amersham.
Staff and students from Buckinghamshire College designed the mural with reference to interviews conducted with Amersham residents aged 70 to 96 conducted in 2021.
The memories and reflections of the reminiscence group were originally turned into a book to celebrate Amersham Museum’s 70th anniversary. This year, the same stories were revisited and went on to inspire each of the motifs laid on the mural.
Put together, the project testifies to a multigenerational effort bringing together some of Amersham’s oldest residents and a younger generation of college students.
Amongst the images painted are illustrations of the Charter Fair, Amersham Rugby Club and the River Chess.
Officially unveiled by Mayor Elizabeth Shepherd on October 4, thanks go out to Amersham Town Council, Amersham Musuem, artists from Buckinghamshire College, the Royal Mail group, and sponsors Amersham Action Group and Tesco Stronger Starts.
