MONEYHILL PARADE: Rickmansworth shopkeepers speak out on new parking restrictions

Published on: 31st January 2025   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

The shopkeepers of Moneyhill Parade in Rickmansworth continue to fight against the new parking restrictions introduced in the area.

New parking controls on Uxbridge Road came into force on Monday, December 9.

The shopkeepers have shared their concerns about the cost that the controls have placed on them – including a £536 permit for the year.

Michael Charnock, on behalf of the shopkeepers, said: “The shopkeepers of Moneyhill Parade are furious that this parking scheme has been implemented without any meaningful consultation.

“It has taken the council six weeks to tell us the petition we have presented and signed by all the shopkeepers is not in the correct format and will not be heard!

“The council does what it wants and does not care what the residents or businesses think. We have had enough!”

The shopkeepers did not feel they were properly consulted, hence why they created a petition for Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) to consider.

A spokesperson for the shopkeepers said: “My suggestion is that the shopkeepers be treated with respect and that if they bring another petition, it needs to be fully considered.”

A TRDC spokesperson said: “The scheme was implemented after the council conducted careful and extensive consultation over several years with nearby residents and businesses. This fed into the final plans to improve road safety and prioritise parking places for people living locally and shoppers.

“The petition was invalid as it did not include residential addresses within the district as required by the council’s constitution. The lead petitioner was advised of this and was invited to submit a fresh petition signed by at least 25 district residents including their home addresses.”
