A fundraising event that involved crowdfunding, networking and Dragons’ Den-style pitches has raised £14,000 for three charities.
On Wednesday, May 22, 70 people headed to The Pioneer Club in St Albans. Based on The Funding Network (TFN) live crowdfunding model, participants took part in a networking session, followed by three six-minute pitches delivered by the three charities Goods for Good, Angels Support Group, and Kaotic Angel Foundation. Finally, an auction-style crowdfunding session raised £14,000.
Eugenie Harvey, chief executive of TFN, said: “It was fantastic to see this network back in Hertfordshire! This is a county with great disparities, but also one with hundreds of small charities and changemakers working tirelessly to make a difference.
“These are funds raised by the community, for the community – and that is always inspiring!”
June Cory, co-organiser of TFN Herts, said: “In a week where the news cycle is full of politics, posturing and recriminations, 70 people came together and did something extraordinary.
“We were humbled and in awe of the passion of the charity pitches, their levels of energy and the extent of everyone’s generosity.”
