An inspirational science teacher says she was left “completely speechless” after receiving a letter from national treasure Sir David Attenborough.
Mrs Sarah Moore has taught science at The Gerrards Cross C.E. School for more than 20 years. Every two years, she organises a week celebrating science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The theme this year was ‘Animals’, and Mrs Moore arranged for all 420 pupils to visit London Zoo.
The school contacted Sir David Attenborough to tell him about Sarah’s inspirational work.
Amazingly, the much-loved broadcaster and biologist sent a handwritten note to Sarah praising her “great success in explaining to your pupils the great importance of the natural world”.
He continued: “We depend upon it [the natural world] for every breath of air we breathe and every mouthful of food. But it too deserves a place on this planet just as we do.”
His letter was presented to Sarah in a school assembly on Monday, February 26.
Headteacher Nicola Flower said: “It is a huge honour for her and something she will treasure.”
